Travel in and around Southern England

Southern England is served by an excellent rail network which links destinations within the region, provides a fast and frequent service between London and the region's major towns and provides connections with cross country routes. If you plan to make several rail journeys, you can obtain special rate BritRail passes from your own travel agent, prior to arriving in Britain. Alternatively, you can ask about rail passes at any national rail offices or stations on arrival. By Car

Motorways (on which the speed limit is 70mph/112.6kmph) link major cities. When travelling around, look for the brown and white signs which indicate nearby tourist attractions and the i signs that denote Tourist Information.

By Coach

National Express (see advertisement opposite) operates a network of economically-priced long-distance coach services throughout Britain. Coaches leave London from Victoria Coach Station, adjacent to London Victoria railway station. You can obtain information on the service, and buy a discount BritExpress Card, from your local BTA office.
